On the 13th of December 1953 the Greek steamer Dimitris was on a passage from Bona, North Africa to Middlesbrough with a cargo of iron ore, when she ran aground on seaward end of the Flashes reef, off Redcar. The Redcar lifeboat CITY OF LEEDS was launched to her assistance, and with the aid of local fishing boats all her 36 crew were rescued, despite the heavy weather.

This vessel has been extensively salvaged but there is still lots to see e.g., boilers spare prop and you can swim through the prop tunnel. The mast sticks out of the water at low tide so your rib can be moored to it.

The wreck is a great novice dive!
