Learning to scuba dive can be a life-changing experience, bringing a host of exciting underwater opportunities and friends to enjoy them with.

From beginner to advanced, Cleveland Divers provides the full BSAC training programme enabling divers to progress through a framework of qualifications at their own pace.

BSAC’s Ocean Diver course is the place to start. This entry-level open water diver qualification will equip you with the core skills to dive to a maximum of 20 metres in open water, in the UK and abroad.

With BSAC, diving skills are taught progressively, with each new skill and experience built upon, step-by-step. The blend of theory, swimming pool and open water skills sessions along with continual technique practice enables you to develop your diving in a safe and enjoyable way.

With BSAC there are five internationally-recognised diver grades, from the entry-level Ocean Diver through to First Class Diver.
Cleveland Divers are a branch of BSAC.

What gear will I need?

It is recognised that cold water kit is expensive. We recommend a budget of between £1500 and £2000 for a full set of cold -water kit. Which consists of:

  • Dry suit and thermal under suit
  • A BC that fits over your dry suit
  • Cylinder 12l or 15l
  • Set of cold-water regulators
  • Appropriate amount of weights
  • Hood and gloves
  • Fins that fit over your dry suit boots/socks.

Students are advised to seek advice from other experienced club members before purchasing cold water kit to ensure the appropriate kit is purchased at an appropriate price.  Also, when existing club members upgrade their equipment there may be suitable cold -water kit for sale within the club.
